GBBD October: large-blooming chrysanthemums

GBBD - I'm heading over to May Dreams Gardens October GBBD post to see what other garden bloggers still have blooming in October. The cold is upping the ante just a bit around here. I'm doing a little cheating this month. First of all, the gorgeous blooms in this post are from my father's showcase of large-blooming chrysanthemums - and are not mine. Hopefully, next week I'll be able to post closer-up photos of each individual flower, as it's been raining every day for a while now!

But first, here's another cheat on the guidelines. This photo below IS mine, and shows not what is blooming in my garden, but what sure will be next year! Here are plants I put in last weekend...

My father's obsession for the past few years - large-blooming chrysanthemums.

Much more to come next week...

  1. Wendy, I love to see these chrysanthemums and can't seem to get enough of them. Here, in South East Asia, mums are used to make flower garlands and cut flowers for prayers and decorations. We even drink chrysanthemum tea. I am looking forward to see more of these pictures from your dad's garden. Until then, have a great weekend!

  7. Hey Wendy, mums are easy to propagate from stems...I'm sure your dad wouldn't mind sharing ;) The color of the last photo is so unique!
Good collection you've got planted in your garden...what is that green-round looking plant on the right edge?

  8. Thanks for the compliments! My fave is the yellow with the curled tendrils. I'll show a better photo of it next time.

Autumn Belle, I actually really like chrysanthemum tea as well - always have it with dim sum. I guess it's probably a special type though, right?

Lynn - it's hen and chicks - a little wierd looking in the pots, but in the ground and separated, looks quite nice. Can't wait for them to spread.

  10. Wendy,
I don't consider it cheating at all to show what's coming up next year. I can't wait to see the progress! Great mums

  11. I love the way the different colored mums mingle with each other in one of your photos. I just have a clump of pink ones. My past experience with mums has been that they either get too spready, or else don't live more than a couple seasons. My husband is enjoying the mums he sees around town, and is requesting that I plant more. I'll have to look into planting some together like the ones in the photo.

Thanks for your reply to my vent. It helped to do that, and now, it doesn't come to mind much. I have applied to be a monarch waystation, so will probably end up with a sign in my garden after all. LOL

My awesome gardening friends...thanks for leaving a comment! I don't typically repond here, but I love knowing who you are so I can visit your blog as well.

btw - if you're trying to show me nude Miley Cyrus photos, sell me nikes or viagra or antibiotics, or encourage my lovely garden readers to visit your site on solar panel construction, or seo-whatevers, sorry, but I'm not publishing your comment. If you want to moderate my blog - well, I can't keep you too busy, and the pay would be horrible. And lastly, no. I'm not interested in Club Penguin cheat codes. Thanks anyway.
