What seeds do to gardeners

I doubt I'm the only one who is suffering from wintertime amnesia - blissfully forgetting about last summer's failed crops, pests, the fact that I can't grow a freaking cucumber, the mosquito bites, and about how damn hot it can get.  Truth is, last year I made no effort.  Not quite sure what was going on, but even as I started seeds, I knew I wasn't fully invested.

This year is different.  It's January 8th and my heart is completely in it.  This summer, I resolve to go outside every single morning while it's still cool, do a bit of weeding, spin the composter, water the cukes, and I'm going to lovingly tend, tend, tend my little garden.  I'm expecting butterflies.  I'm expecting bees.  I'm expecting nibble-free greens, and fruits of every shape, size, and color.  What about you?!  It's crazy what a bag of seeds can do to a gardener.

  1. Hello Wendy, i forgot if i greeted you Happy New Year! I don't normally comment if your post is on foods, as if i garden without eating! What happened to the dog, i haven't monitored. But when you asked what can seeds do to gardeners, ah i can relate to that. When a blogger friend from Illinois sent me some seeds, it acted as a bait for me. I posted it today, hahaha! Happy gardening and may you have full success with all that you wish for!

  2. Wow! You are so much more organized than I am. My garden is still a hot mess! Needs major cleanup!

  3. sounds like last year was a sabbatical, hope this year brings you garden joy. I'm the opposite to you - last year was full of garden energy, this year I don't feel very energetic or enthusiastic.

  4. You hit the nail head on! Last year my garden was a bust! We planted way too much for the time we had to give to it with a newborn....and right now I am in seed heaven scouring my catalogs and plotting new pieces of land to turn!! And you are right, I forget about the bugs, the heat, the lack of time for weeding..... :)

  5. Yay! for you! I'm glad to hear such zest for working in your beautiful garden! I look forward to some pics, but even now I like to see pictures of wintertime garden conditions. One thing I learned this year was to not have my tomatoes where the security light illuminated them at night. I think it affected production. I planted cuke seeds and plants a total of five times this past year, and didn't get a single one. Good luck to you!

  6. Yes! A little packet of seeds can bring a winter-bound gardener out of the blues quicker than ice melting on a hot sidewalk! My garden map is sitting on my table .. ready to rotate (on paper) the crops from last years plan. Life is good :)

  7. And for some reason this year, I'm not feeling it! I'm hoping once those seeds actually arrive, I'll feel differently. I think I just need a vacation. Been hinting to the hubbie....

  8. For me this year it's as much seed catalogues as the seeds themselves :) I just found my graph paper and I'm ready to start mapping what comes up this spring, and what I'd like to plant!

My awesome gardening friends...thanks for leaving a comment! I don't typically repond here, but I love knowing who you are so I can visit your blog as well.

btw - if you're trying to show me nude Miley Cyrus photos, sell me nikes or viagra or antibiotics, or encourage my lovely garden readers to visit your site on solar panel construction, or seo-whatevers, sorry, but I'm not publishing your comment. If you want to moderate my blog - well, I can't keep you too busy, and the pay would be horrible. And lastly, no. I'm not interested in Club Penguin cheat codes. Thanks anyway.
