Garden to Table Challenge - week 3
As you may have seen in my last post, plums have been falling from the skies at my father's place. 10 pitted and halved cups worth were cooked down into an Asian plum sauce that I will relish with some thin pancakes, roast duck, and spring onions (a la Peking duck). 10 other pitted and halved cups worth were preserved in a light syrup.

As a side note, Teresa suggested I create a badge. I thought, yeah right - I'll be able to do that. She, kindly, did offer to help. Anyway, it's a marvel I can maintain a blog, being as technologically inept as I am, but I decided to channel an old English teacher colleague I shared a classroom with way back when I was teaching. He used to tell his students that he can do ANYTHING - all because he can read (I loved loved loved that statement). Well guess what, I don't back down from a challenge and I can read. Did you see my new badge on the right? Oooohhh yyyeaaahhh. I'm awesome.
If you can read and want to be awesome too, I used fotoflexer for editing the photo, and these directions here to add the widget (I even know what a widget is).

ReplyDeleteSCORE on the plums! Those sound delicious. I canned plums last year for the first time, and my children devoured them long before Christmas. I'm sure you'll be loving those this winter. :-)
ReplyDeleteI made plum sauce from my plum tree a few years back and still have some - what a great idea to have it with pancakes and scallions - I had way too many green onions to deal with this week (as you'll see by my post) so I'm going to make that for sure - thanks!!

Did you cook plums that you preserved in syrup, or you used them fresh? I also did that, but I used them fresh, and now I'm thinking that I could cook them for a few minutes before caning.

Hi Wendy, congratulations on your newfound expertise, I can read too but i dont know how to make a badge! I only know how to make some preserves and jams, hehe. No harvesting here, but I did have some good local blueberries in North Carolina. And the weather might just be turning a little cooler - soup weather. I'm all about making soup.

ReplyDeleteThese days I am enjoying tomatoes, of course. I have already frozen three batches of sauce, made from my San Marzanos. We are also loving the potatoes this year, and there are plenty left!
That one really looks yummy and perfect for my dieting appetite. LOl. I just harvest some strawberries and made some strawberry jam for afternoon snack everyday. My kids really love it and enjoy our family bonding because of this yummy strawberry jam.
ReplyDeleteI made some strawberry shake yesterday and partner with some beef shawarma for a snack. Yummy! That one is yummy too! I would love to try that next time I harvested strawberry.
