The good, the bad, and the ugly

I'm so contrived these days, but seems every year, I do some variation of a good, bad, and ugly post.

The good - finally, a cute little watermelon.  But too little, too late you little watermelon!!!! It's almost October!

The bad - well, bad meaning good... A frickin' plethora of apples on the trees at the u-pick farm, and after a glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug, glug of triple sec and tequila, some jars of strawberry margarita preserves!

And the ugly - some one has taken a hole-puncher to this foliage.  Either that or some nasty bug has decided to really piss me off.  And then to add insult to injury, this Sassy cat of mine needs to make my planter a kitty bed.  Ah well, she's 11 years old this October.  Maybe I'll just leave her be.

  1. You got some cute watermelons there ^_^ I planted my butternut squash, honeydew, and bell pepper seeds in July. They all sprouted but stopped growing any further. It has been cold in San Francisco since August and pretty darn chilly now. My garden is slowly dying because of the weather.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Mid-Autumn festival.

  3. Strawberry margarita preserves! Tell me more! Your planter is fantastic and that shot of your cat in your planter is priceless! So funny how animals and kids for that matter know how to find just the right area of your hard work to make themselves at home!

  6. Tee hee. Our outdoor cat likes to sit in a container of catnip. My daughter was like, "don't let him sit there! He'll kill the plant!"
But I told her, "Ah, let him be. If he kills it, there are a bazillion seedlings to take its place and he's happy." (The catnip reseeds all over the place which is a good thing in this case.)

The little nibblings look like the work of the dreaded root weevil in his adult stage. As a youngster he lives in the soil and has the appearance of a C-shaped white grub. As an adult he is a hard shelled bug, a plant-eater that does his dirty work at night. They're kind of fussy eaters but when they find a plant they like, you'll see evidence.

The strawberry margarita mix looks wonderful and I bet it wouldn't take much to get me sauced. :)

Can you believe it's October? Sheesh! Have a great week.

  7. Hello Wendy,
Too bad about the melon...I guess that plant didn't get the memo that fall is here.
Your homemade jam is so tasty looking. I was lucky that my mom made jam and gave me some. I have no skills in that department.
Thanks for commenting on my blog.
    Cheers!

  8. I had a "small melon" experience a couple of seasons ago and decided that unless I move way further south, it's not worth trying again.
As for those preserves - kind of gives a new meaning to toast in the morning!

My awesome gardening friends...thanks for leaving a comment! I don't typically repond here, but I love knowing who you are so I can visit your blog as well.

btw - if you're trying to show me nude Miley Cyrus photos, sell me nikes or viagra or antibiotics, or encourage my lovely garden readers to visit your site on solar panel construction, or seo-whatevers, sorry, but I'm not publishing your comment. If you want to moderate my blog - well, I can't keep you too busy, and the pay would be horrible. And lastly, no. I'm not interested in Club Penguin cheat codes. Thanks anyway.
